INITIATIVE | 001 As a company, Shaw Industries realizes that the implementation of new technology in our products and services is very valuable in continuing our strategy toward a Cradle to Cradle future. But, we didn't start there.
We started with the core belief that we have to be responsible citizens in the use of our world's resources, including energy usage. You will find many initiatives included on this site that address energy usage in our manufacturing facilities. But it's the simple stuff that we concentrate on too.
Turning off the Lights is a company-wide program that encourages our facility managers to conserve energy simply by turning off the lights. When you go to lunch, when you go home in the evening, if you are leaving your office for a meeting, you turn off your light.
The facility managers may remind you to turn off your light by posting a sign by each door that reads 001| Turn off the lights. Otherwise, the process may be automated, as in our administrative facility in Dalton, GA, which houses approximately 650 workers and many common areas. In this facility the lights go off every evening automatically – only to be turned back on in timed intervals, ensuring that we Turn Off the Lights.
