INITIATIVE | 010 At Shaw, we're committed to making sustainable practice a part of our everyday life. To this end, we've implemented a company-wide environmental management system called Shaw Environmental System (SES) that is more rigorous than any third party certification.
SES is a key component of our overall environmental strategy because it provides a structure and a framework by which sustainable practice is systemized and made measurable. Based on ISO 14001, SES is specifically tailored to the needs of the floor covering industry. The ISO 14001 certification at the carpet tile plant provides an independent benchmark that validates our entire Shaw Environmental System.
SES is compliant with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and focuses on environmental impacts at each Shaw facility – including water and energy usage and waste production. By January 2007, the SES system will certify, or have scheduled to certify, 52 carpet and fiber manufacturing plants, including all our commercial plants. The Shaw Environmental System applies the success of those operational management strategies used in our quality and safety programs to identify and encourage improvement across all our operations.
SES is a system that enables positive environmental change to take place within Shaw's diverse corporate culture. At Shaw, we're constantly challenging ourselves to improve our methods – but we don't leave it at that. We've designed a system by which we can measure our progress, to ensure all our operations are above and beyond compliance. That's the Shaw Green Edge.
