INITIATIVE | 041 Operating with a take-less, make-less, waste-less philosophy, Shaw recycles materials into new products and packaging…materials that would otherwise become waste and eventually permeate our landfills.
Each of Shaw's facilities has been tasked with recycling all waste material possible. Currently, Shaw Industries diverts more than 200 million pounds of refuse, per year, from wasteyards.
Over 11 million pounds of baled fiber, 4 million pounds of beam waste, 6.5 million pounds of plastic, 7.5 million pounds of metals, 50 million pounds of carpet remnants, 450,000 pounds of paper, and 52 million pounds of cardboard are sent to collectors to sort for recycling. Additionally, more than 12 million pounds of wood flooring residue is reclaimed and used as an energy source at Shaw's waste-to-energy facility in Dalton.
In the United States alone, the average person generates over 4.45 pounds of waste each day. Based on this average, Shaw diverts materials from the landfill for 123,000 people…for an entire year.
Many simple actions have wider impacts than we realize…that's the Shaw Green Edge.
