Innovation
From creating Cradle to Cradle products that can be recycled back into themselves again and again at the end of their useful lives or using alternative fuels like yellow grease, to monitoring our transportation miles to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, our Green Edge Initiatives show our commitment to Sustainability™ Through Innovation in action.

Recycle Roll Wrap Plastic

INITIATIVE | 081 At Shaw, we hate to waste. At our scale, every efficiency amounts to massive savings. That's why we're looking across the company, at all we do and all we make, in order to drive out excess.

When rolls of carpet are cut to an ordered length, they are wrapped in polyethylene plastic film for shipping. Small amounts may be left at the core and discarded if there is not enough film to wrap a roll. But that plastic can be reused! Those skinner roles are now collected and sent back to the packaging supplier to melt and re-pellatize for injection into new plastic film. The Distribution Center was able to use over 1.1 million linear yards of recycled material in 2006 alone! That's the distance to drive from Atlanta, GA to Miami, FL.

At Shaw, we don't see waste as garbage destined for a landfill. With a little conscious effort it's something we can put to good use again and again. That's what we call our Shaw Green Edge.
