Innovation
From creating Cradle to Cradle products that can be recycled back into themselves again and again at the end of their useful lives or using alternative fuels like yellow grease, to monitoring our transportation miles to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, our Green Edge Initiatives show our commitment to Sustainability™ Through Innovation in action.

Zody Task Chair

INITIATIVE | 122 Reducing, recycling and reusing is a key principle of the Shaw Green Edge® – and that includes keeping waste out of landfills, from carpet removed during the renovation of corporate offices, to aluminum cans and office furniture.

In keeping with the Green Edge commitment, the Corporate Furniture Selection Team recommended the Cradle to Cradle Gold-certified Haworth Zody chair become the standard company task chair.

Zody is the first task chair certified as a Cradle to Cradle Gold product by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry, LLC (MBDC). The certification is based on evaluations of human and environmental health, lifecycle attributes, renewable energy, water stewardship and social responsibility, and the chair – which features advanced ergonomics – is designed to maximize human and ecological health. Comprised of 50 percent recycled material content and 98 percent recyclable, the Zody is assembled with 100 percent wind power in an ISO 14001 certified manufacturing facility.

Zody is also GREENGUARD certified as a low-emitting furniture product and is free of PBDEs, PVC, CFCs and chrome. Steel and aluminum, two of the most recyclable materials on earth, comprise 77 percent of Zody's weight. Disassembly takes less than 15 minutes, and customers can return Zody chairs to Haworth for recycling – proving the Zody is another excellent way Shaw fulfills its Green Edge.
