INITIATIVE | 009 When you add environmental responsibility to the superior performance and lasting beauty of Shaw's Epic™ Hardwood Flooring, you have a product that benefits you and the environment.
All the wood veneers used to create the stunning grains and visual appeal of Epic Hardwood are obtained from suppliers who are committed to being good stewards of our environment through sound forestry practices.
Each year there are over 1.7 billion trees planted in the U.S. That's more than 5 trees for each person in America. Here at Shaw Industries, we respect our country's efforts to reforest the land by carefully adhering to sustainable forestry guidelines. Respecting these standards helps to balance ecosystem health by reducing the amount of timber harvested.
EnviroCore™, the inner core of Epic Hardwood flooring is composed of wood fiber that's created in the manufacture of other products, that would otherwise be burned or put into landfills. Epic puts essential natural materials to good use, instead of having them enter the planet's waste stream.
Epic's 3/8" thick hardwood products use approximately 50% less newly forested wood in their production than conventional 3/4" engineered alternatives. This remarkable reductions in the use of our natural wood resources is the result of great Green Edge thinking put into practice.
Shaw's Durashield™ finish ensures that your Epic hardwood floor will look good and perform for decades. However, if you should decide at some point that another wood color would better suit your changing decor, just sand and refinish rather than replace. That's one more way Shaw saves you money, while also saving the resources of our planet and reducing the amount of waste in our landfills.
Epic Hardwood Flooring reinforces forest sustainability practices, from Shaw's environmentally conscious purchasing practices all the way to the low-waste manufacturing process, actually enhancing our planet's resources. By striving to use every part of the tree in the manufacturing process of Epic's hardwood veneer, core and backing, Shaw continues to conserve materials.
That's the Shaw Green Edge.
