INITIATIVE | 003 Hi, I'm David Wilkerson, Vice President of Marketing for Shaw's Hard Surfaces Division and the 2006 Chairman for Shaw's North West Georgia United Way Campaign.
At Shaw, we believe in thinking globally and acting locally. Our core values of honesty, integrity and hard work guide our development of products that are smart and stylish, that perform better and provide a great value. But, here at Shaw, we have the means and desire to do more. We're focused on improving life by design, and through our social and diversity programs, we're committed to improving life for those in need.
Shaw works with the United Way office in several counties to raise funds for their programs. From Gordon County to Northwest Georgia, from Greater Chattanooga to Bartow County, all the way to South Pittsburgh, TN, wherever there is Shaw facility, you're sure to find us helping out any way we can.
Every year, we identify individuals within Shaw Industries, living in Dalton and Cartersville, to serve as Chair people for our campaigns – working closely with the chapters in our area to set fundraising goals.
Our campaign starts early in the year with extensive planning sessions, and by summer, fundraising is well underway at Shaw facilities. No employee is required to give – but many do so willingly. Shaw makes it easy to contribute by offering an automatic deduction out of each paycheck. In addition, Shaw makes a corporate gift on top of any employee contributions. The money that is collected is sent directly to the United Way in our communities. United Way of Northwest Georgia alone was the beneficiary of $1.6 million dollars last year!
As a company, Shaw knows that it plays a part in the communities where we're located - and we're committed to making them better places to live and work. That's just us, thinking locally. Our involvement with the United Way is only one example of how we're improving the lives of those around us. That's a Green Edge for the greater good.
