Shaw Announces Online Tool to Calculate LEED Contribution of Shaw Products
06.14.2004

Dalton, GA - Shaw announces the development of the Shaw LEED Impact Tool, an online tool that will provide users with accurate information regarding the environmental attributes as well as their contribution to the USGBC LEED Rating System. The tool will be available later this year on the Shaw website at www.shawcontractgroup.com. The Shaw LEED Impact Tool designed in collaboration with Greenmind Technologies will offer the following benefits:

• Automated assistance with LEED documentation

• Customized review and comparison of multiple products

• Ability to print, download and/or e-mail LEED Specification Sheets and analysis information for all products that contribute to the rating system

• Reduced time and associated dollars associated with LEED research and documentation

• Accurate and straight-forward information on product attributes and LEED contribution

"The Shaw LEED Impact Tool responds to the time-intensive research involved with achieving LEED certification and provides straight-forward product information and documentation," said John Stephens, vice president of market development, Shaw. "In just a matter of minutes, designers and architects can compare the LEED contribution of various products and print the necessary documentation and calculations to satisfy credit submittal requirements." How It Works The Shaw LEED Impact Tool is designed for ease of use. Data on all products is available for view, or specific products with various attributes may be compared to determine the LEED impact for each product. Users simply enter the amount of carpet and project location; hit the "Calculate/Compare" button; and a matrix of information showing the LEED contribution for each product is displayed. Shaw products may contribute to LEED Material and Resources credits, including waste management credits, recycled content credits, local/regional materials credits, as well as LEED Indoor Environmental Quality credits, including credit for low-emitting adhesives and low emitting carpet. The matrix also will provide environmental attributes beyond the LEED system, which may be considered for innovation points. Users may print, e-mail or download the entire product listing or a specific analysis, as well as LEED Specification Sheets for individual products. The specification sheet is formatted to meet documentation requirements of the LEED rating system. "Shaw has taken a leadership position as the first manufacturer in the commercial interiors industry to offer a tool to calculate LEED contribution of its products," said Stephens. "While flooring is only a small portion of the whole project, we believe our initiative will set a trend for other manufacturers."
