Shaw Industries Wins 2005 WRAP Award
04.21.2006

Dalton, GA - April 21, 2006 – Shaw Industries, Inc., California Division was recently honored by the Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP). The award was presented on behalf of the California Integrated Waste Management Board for the company's efforts to reduce waste at its California manufacturing facilities, which support the Tuftex and Designweave brands. The WRAP award honors the California Division's environmental commitment to reduce waste and prevent pollution, through the reuse and recycling of waste. Shaw has set forth significant initiatives to improve its operations and activities and set environmental goals that aim to minimize its impact on the environment. In 2004, the California Facilities diverted over 3,600 tons of recyclable material from disposal, resulting in an estimated $400,000 in savings through waste reduction, reuse efforts and reduced landfill costs. The State of California's Integrated Waste Management Board has recognized Shaw's plants for its outstanding efforts to reduce non-hazardous waste and send less material to landfills. The California Plants have been recognized as one of the top facilities that exemplify these efforts, which serve as waste management models to the rest of the industry. "We are excited and honored to receive recognition for our California Facilities. The award acknowledges our commitment to work with local regulatory agencies in California to achieve our goals of reducing waste and increasing quality of life in the community," said Jim Cusick, Director of Manufacturing. Shaw has been recognized for local contribution to waste reduction and resource efficiency to the Los Angeles Area. By finding alternatives to recycle industrial solid waste material, the plants have significantly reduced disposal and transportation costs. These waste reduction efforts have helped reduce California's municipal waste and material sent to landfill. Through the establishment of an Environmental Management System, Shaw plans to continually improve operations and set progressive environmental goals that aim to minimize the impact on the environment. Shaw actively strives to contribute to a better environment for everyone. WRAP Eligibility includes:

• Businesses and private nonprofit organizations with California facilities that have established innovative environmental commitments of waste reduction.

• Must be in current compliance with all applicable solid waste regulatory programs.
