About Shaw :  company overview
Our story is the story of our customers - and of our commitment to providing them with the products they need: products that are innovative, sustainable, have value and are competitively priced. That was our commitment 63 years ago, when we began as Star Dye Company, a small business in Dalton, Georgia that dyed tufted scatter rugs. And it's still our commitment today.

Shaw Industries Named to "Fast 50" by Fast Company
04.03.2007

Dalton, Ga. – Shaw Industries, Inc., the world's largest carpet manufacturer, recently garnered a spot on the Fast Company "Fast 50" list for 2007. In its 6th annual report, Fast Company lists "profit driven solutions for what ails the planet." A publication that promotes best practices, vision and creativity in the business community, Fast Company is a respected advocate for innovative business ideas and solutions.

"Shaw is honored to be a part of the ‘Fast 50' for 2007, a recognition that resonates throughout our entire organization," said Vance D. Bell, chief executive office of Shaw Industries. "The environmental initiatives for which we were recognized define the direction of Shaw. We seek Cradle to Cradle solutions, products and processes that are designed to use the same building blocks over and over, leaving nothing to waste."

Fast Company applauds Shaw's Cradle to Cradle model, whereby carpet is designed and engineered to be completely recyclable. Shaw's collection network reclaims carpet that has reached the end of its useful life, and through its Evergreen Nylon Recycling Facility, recycles old carpet into new carpet, endlessly. Cradle to Cradle design equals fewer raw materials used in the manufacturing process. By constructing products intended to be deconstructed and reconstituted again and again, Shaw is keeping millions of pounds of carpet from ever languishing in a landfill.

"Cradle to Cradle is our path to sustainability," said Shaw President Randy Merritt. "Without sacrificing aesthetics and function, recyclability is the ultimate performance attribute in our carpet. Shaw believes that companies can do the right thing profitably. By embracing creativity and innovation, Cradle to Cradle solutions are attainable for businesses of all sizes and we encourage other companies to embrace this same approach. Collectively, we can create better products, a better economy, a better environment, and truly a better world." Environmental leadership and a Cradle to Cradle commitment.
