Our story is the story of our customers - and of our commitment to providing them with the products they need: products that are innovative, sustainable, have value and are competitively priced. That was our commitment 63 years ago, when we began as Star Dye Company, a small business in Dalton, Georgia that dyed tufted scatter rugs. And it's still our commitment today.

Shaw Receives National Workplace Literacy Award

04.27.2011

Dalton, Ga. – Shaw Learning Academy, the training division of Shaw Industries Group, Inc. has received the Chester Klevins Outstanding Workplace Literacy Program Award from the Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE). The award recognizes Shaw's passionate commitment to improving the lives and performance of its associates through improved workplace literacy. To this end, nearly 1,500 Shaw associates have obtained their GED and almost 1,000 have participated in Shaw's English as a Second Language program.

The Chester Klevins Award honors a single organization for an outstanding workplace literacy program that meets the needs of business.

"This award is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the associates of Shaw Industries to further their education and skills," said Danny Crutchfield, Director of Corporate Training and Organizational Development for Shaw. "Our associates put in the time and effort to learn these skills - skills which not only help our associates on their jobs, but which allow Shaw's associates to better care for themselves and their families. Our associates are supported by Shaw's Continuing Education Manager, Becky Herron, along with many others within the company who support these programs by facilitating classes and motivating associates to achieve their goals. Furthermore, this award is recognition of the strong partnerships Shaw has with the State of Georgia's Office of Adult Literacy, Dalton State College, and Georgia Northwestern Technical College, all of which are instrumental in the success of these programs."

Crutchfield went on to say, "Shaw couldn't be more proud of its associates and the Shaw Learning Academy. This is the third straight month the Shaw Learning Academy has received national recognition of its world-class programs."

Shaw Industries champions the value of well trained associates and customers by providing the personal and professional development needed to excel. Elearning! Media Group announced that Shaw Learning Academy ranked #16 its "Learning! 100" for embracing learning culture and technologies to achieve exceptional performance in March. In February, Shaw Learning Academy was listed as #13 on Training magazine's "Training Top 125" rankings, Shaw's highest ranking ever and its seventh consecutive year on the list.
